BNP Paribas Open | Mike Sullivan Art

In 2013 BNP Paribas Open owner, Larry Ellison, commissioned renowned sports artist, Mike Sullivan, to paint the portraits of the men’s and women’s champions of the 2013 tournament. Along with the champions, Mr. Ellison also wanted to honor tennis legend John McEnroe.

As the exclusive tile mural manufacturer of Mike Sullivan Art, Whitehill Enterprises digitally scanned the three original canvases that Mike had painted and enlarged them to 9’ x 10’. The images were then digitally printed onto 12” x 12” ceramic tiles and shipped to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California.

The murals were installed on the front of Stadium 1 and covered with Canvas in preparation of the unveiling.

At the beginning of the 2014 BNP Paribas Open, 2013 women’s champion, Maria Sharapova and men’s champion, Rafael Nadel unveiled their murals. In a separate ceremony, John McEnroe unveiled his mural alongside Larry Ellison.

The tradition of honoring the tournaments men’s and women’s champions along with a tennis legend each year with a custom tile mural by Mike Sullivan has continued. Whitehill Enterprises is proud to be a part of this great tradition.
